Our Story & Mission
Most overseas buyers have been burned before — wrong grade delivered, MTCs that don’t match, lead times that slip by weeks. We started SinoSteel Special in 2008 with one purpose: to be the Chinese steel supplier that actually behaves like a long-term partner.
To every buyer, on every order

In 2006, our founder David Dai was working as a technical liaison between a European mold manufacturer and a Chinese steel mill. He watched the same problem repeat itself, order after order: the steel that arrived was never quite what was specified. Hardness out of range. MTCs that referenced the wrong heat number. Dimensions that drifted from tolerance. And whenever the buyer complained, the response was silence or excuses.
Two years later, he left to fix it. SinoSteel Special was built from the ground up around a single principle: the buyer's engineer should be able to trust every document we issue and every bar we ship. We hired metallurgists before we hired salespeople. We built relationships with China's top-tier mills — not the cheapest ones — and we created a verification process that happens before shipment, not after a complaint.
"The first thing I tell new clients is: we are not the cheapest option in China. We are the option where what you ordered is what arrives — with the paperwork to prove it."
— DAVID DAI, FOUNDER & MANAGING DIRECTOR
Today we ship over 15,000 metric tons annually to buyers in 60+ countries. Our clients include precision mold makers in Germany, automotive component manufacturers in India, bearing producers in Malaysia, and heavy machinery fabricators in Brazil. Most of them came to us after a bad experience elsewhere. Nearly all of them stay.
Started with a team of 4 and supply agreements with two tier-1 Chinese mills. First export: 80 tons of H13 to a Turkish mold maker.
Formalized our quality management system. Introduced the in-house MTC review protocol that remains our baseline today.
Secured first framework contracts with German and Italian buyers. Began offering EN 10204 3.2 third-party MTCs.
Opened liaison office serving Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Expanded stocked range to cover high-speed, bearing, spring, and stainless grades.
Achieved record monthly volume. Team now comprises professionals across sales, engineering and logistics.
Every inquiry at SinoSteel Special is handled by someone who understands the metallurgy behind the grade you need. Our sales team holds engineering or materials science degrees. When you ask about hardness uniformity or cross-standard equivalence, you get a real technical answer — not a forwarded email.

16 years in special steel trade. Former technical liaison for European mill partnerships. Fluent in English and German.

Materials engineering graduate, 11 years in steel QC. Oversees all MTC verification and third-party inspection coordination.

Manages European and Middle Eastern accounts. Specialized in cross-standard grade mapping (GB↔DIN↔AISI↔JIS).

10 years in export documentation. Handles customs compliance, CO issuance, and freight coordination for 60+ destination countries.
We hold long-term supply agreements with China's most respected special steel producers — not spot-market traders. This gives our buyers priority allocation, consistent heat-to-heat quality, and documentation that holds up to European and American import audits.
Every batch goes through verification checkpoints before it reaches your port. This is what makes our on-spec delivery possible.

These are not testimonials. They are specific problems specific buyers brought to us — and exactly how we solved them.

A mold maker producing injection molds for automotive interior parts had received two consecutive shipments of H13 from a different Chinese supplier. Hardness readings across sections were inconsistent — ranging from 44 to 51 HRC on the same bar. Two molds cracked in service within 800 cycles. The buyer needed a new source, fast, with proof of hardness uniformity before committing.
We sourced H13 round bar from Tiangong's premium ESR (Electro-Slag Remelted) production, which provides superior metallurgical homogeneity. We arranged a Bureau Veritas hardness survey at five cross-section points per bar before shipment — results ranged 47–49 HRC. Full documentation including the BV report, mill MTC, and heat treatment records were issued within 5 days of order confirmation.
First shipment: 12 tons. Customer reported zero hardness variance issues. Now a repeat buyer — 6 orders placed over 18 months, totaling 68 tons annually.

An Indian supplier to a Japanese OEM needed 42CrMo4 round bars to meet their customer's JIS SCM440 specification. Every Chinese supplier they contacted quoted GB 42CrMo instead — but couldn't produce the cross-standard equivalence documentation required by the Japanese incoming inspection team. The order was stalled for six weeks.
Our technical team produced a formal cross-reference document mapping GB 42CrMo4 to JIS SCM440 and DIN 1.7225, including side-by-side chemical composition limits. We sourced from Daye Special Steel, selected a heat whose chemistry sat within both GB and JIS allowable ranges, and issued a dual-standard MTC referencing both specifications explicitly.
Japanese inspection team accepted the documentation on first submission. Buyer placed the stalled 18-ton order within 48 hours. Now orders monthly — average 45 tons per shipment.

A Turkish manufacturer had been working with a Chinese broker who consistently delivered H13 with incorrect chemical composition — excess carbon leading to premature cracking in high-cycle die casting applications. They had tried three suppliers in 12 months. A German industry contact referred them to us.
Our metallurgical engineer reviewed the buyer's failed MTCs. The carbon content was consistently 0.41–0.43% — at the high end of the H13 range — combined with sub-optimal vanadium. This combination increased brittleness under thermal cycling. We identified that a tighter carbon specification (0.37–0.40%) with higher vanadium would resolve the problem.
We placed a custom specification order with Xingcheng, requesting a heat produced to the tighter carbon window. The mill accommodated this with a 15-ton minimum — acceptable given the buyer's annual volume. We also provided a side-by-side comparison of the failed MTC chemistry versus our specification to give the buyer's engineers confidence before approving payment.
Die life improved from under 30,000 cycles to consistently above 80,000 cycles on the same application. The buyer consolidated their entire H13 and H21 procurement with us — approximately 200 tons per year. They have since referred two other Turkish manufacturers to our team.

Our certifications are not decorations. They represent the specific standards our quality management system, documentation, and supply chain must meet — and be audited against. Every certificate we issue is traceable, verifiable, and backed by real process controls.
All shipments include EN 10204 Type 3.1 MTCs as standard. Type 3.2 (third-party witnessed) MTCs available on request. Certificates of Origin issued under Form A (GSP), Form E (ASEAN-China FTA), or standard CO depending on destination.
Anyone can make claims. Here are the specific operating commitments that separate us from the typical Chinese steel trader — and why our repeat order rate exceeds 85%.
Our standard process: MTC review and dimensional check happen before we request the 70% balance payment. You have proof the steel is correct before you release final funds. If something is wrong, we fix it at our cost — not yours.
Every quotation includes a standard equivalence table showing how the Chinese GB grade maps to your specification (AISI, DIN, JIS, BS). You are never left wondering whether what we supply actually matches what you need.
Every inquiry received during Shanghai business hours (Mon–Fri, 09:00–18:00 CST) receives a substantive response within 4 hours — not an acknowledgement, a real answer with grade availability, lead time, and indicative pricing.
From inquiry to delivery, you deal with one dedicated account manager who owns the entire process — sourcing, QC, documentation, and logistics. No handoffs between departments. No "that's not my job" responses.
If the specified grade or mill is unavailable, we tell you — and propose alternatives with full technical justification. We never substitute a different heat or grade without your written approval. Ever.
For stocked grades, our MOQ is 500 kg. We do not pressure small buyers to inflate orders to justify our logistics cost. If the 500 kg works for you, we ship 500 kg — with the same documentation and service level as a 50-ton order.
